What is the CM Punjab E-Bike Scheme?
The Chief Minister's Electric Bike Scheme is a Government of Punjab initiative that helps students get a brand-new electric bike without any extra cost, or, as of the September 2026 update, any down payment. It runs through the Bank of Punjab, with the Punjab Information Technology Board managing the online portal and the computerised ballot.
The scheme began on a smaller scale in earlier phases before Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz approved a major expansion at a review meeting on 2 September 2026, taking the programme's overall target to more than 125,000 e-bikes and removing the down payment altogether. Applications for the current phase, covering 100,000 of those e-bikes, opened on 4 September 2026 — and within two days had already crossed 432,000 applications.
The idea is simple: cut the daily transport cost that keeps many students, especially young women, tied to expensive or unreliable commutes, and do it with a cleaner alternative to petrol motorcycles.

Do you qualify?
You're likely eligible if all of the following are true:
- You're at least 18 years old.
- You're a regular, enrolled student at a government or private school, college or university recognised in Punjab.
- You hold a valid motorcycle learner's permit or full driving licence — required for every applicant, male or female.
- You have a Punjab domicile, or other acceptable proof of residence in the province.
- You haven't already applied for a petrol bike under the same scheme — it's one or the other.

How to apply, step by step

Sort your licence first
If you don't already have a learner's permit, get one from your local traffic police office before you start. It's usually ready in a couple of days, and you can't apply without it.

Register on the official portal
Go to bikes.punjab.gov.pk and sign up with your CNIC number and an active mobile number. You'll get an OTP by SMS to confirm it — keep that number switched on, since every update comes through it.

Fill in your details
Add your personal information, your institution and course details, and your address exactly as they appear on your documents.

Upload your documents
Scan or photograph each document clearly and upload it. Most portals cap files at around 2MB each, so compress large images first.

Submit and save your application ID
Double-check everything, submit, and screenshot or write down your application ID. You'll need it to track your status.

Wait for verification and the ballot
The Bank of Punjab checks your documents. If applications for your quota outnumber the bikes available, a computerised random ballot decides who's selected, with results sent by SMS and posted on the portal.

Sign your financing agreement
If you're selected, visit your assigned Bank of Punjab branch or dealer with your original documents to complete the financing paperwork.

Collect your bike
Pick up your e-bike, helmet and safety rod from your assigned dealer, and attend the two-day training. The government's target is to deliver within six weeks of approval.
The bike itself
Every e-bike offered under the scheme uses a LiFePO4 (lithium iron phosphate) battery. It's a heavier chemistry than the lithium-ion packs in many cheaper e-bikes, but it's markedly more stable, tolerates heat better, and typically lasts through more charge cycles before it needs replacing — a sensible trade for a bike meant to be someone's daily ride for years.

Do I really pay only the bike's price, with nothing extra?
Yes. The Government of Punjab covers the extra bank charges on your Bank of Punjab financing, so you only repay the price of the bike, with nothing added on top.
Do I have to pay anything before I get the bike?
As of the September 2026 update, no down payment is required. You start repaying only through the monthly installment after you collect the bike.
I don't have a driving licence yet. Can I still apply?
You need a valid motorcycle learner's permit or driving licence to apply — this applies to every applicant, regardless of gender. Get your learner's permit from your local traffic police office first if you don't already have one.
Can government employees or the general public apply?

I wasn't selected in the ballot. Can I try again?
Yes. Students who aren't selected in one phase's ballot are generally free to reapply in the next phase without penalty.
Can I apply for both an electric and a petrol bike?
No. The scheme treats these as separate tracks, and you can only apply for one type of bike at a time.
